"Chrysalis" Original

$5,000.00

24 × 36 oil on canvas

Chrysalis explores the fragile space between what we have been and what we are becoming. A figure stands with her hand held over her heart, surrounded by a landscape that seems to move between decay and emergence. Beneath her, small bones lie partially hidden among the leaves, while blue butterflies rise above, tracing a quiet movement from what has been released toward what is beginning to take form.

The bones speak to the remnants we carry with us: old selves, experiences, and pieces of our lives that have ended but have not disappeared. Rather than representing death alone, they become part of the fertile ground from which transformation begins. Above, the butterflies offer a different expression of the same cycle, embodying change, release, and the delicate uncertainty of emergence.

At the center of the painting is a moment of inward attention. The figure’s hand rests over her heart, protectively cradling something within her palm. There is no triumphant arrival and no clean division between before and after. Instead, Chrysalis inhabits the vulnerable middle, when the old form has begun to fall away but the new one is still taking shape.

The painting reflects on transformation not as a single moment, but as a gradual and deeply human process of becoming.
